Exhibition Marks 200th Anniversary of the Birth of the Patriarch of Ukrainian Literature Taras Shevchenko

An exhibition will be opened on the 4th of April in Cultural Center "Sea Casino", dedicated to 200th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko birth. The exhibition presents paintings of Taras Shevchenko from the collection of Kiev National Museum, which bears his name.

There are watercolor and etchings among the exhibits by the life-time of the artist and poet. You will be able to see originals of manuscripts by Shevchenko and documents from the personal archive of Bulgarian artists and researchers on the impact of Shevchenko. Materials were provided by funds of Bulgarian historical archive at the National Library. Some of the documents will be shown for the first time.

Taras Shevchenko is a famous Ukrainian poet and artist. He was born on the 9th of  March 1814 in the village of Morintsi /now in Cherkasy region/ province Kiev and died on the 10th of March 1861 in St. Petersburg.

His literary heritage is considered to be the basis of Ukrainian literature. Shevchenko has left literary works in Ukrainian and Russian and works of painting as well.
